The top jobs AI is going to replace

Chat GPT

With the recent launch of ChatGPT, one of the most Googled questions of 2023 has been ‘Will AI replace my job?’ A telling sign that a lot of people are feeling a little nervous about the possibility of a robot replacing them at work one day.

You clicked on the article, so here are the top ten:

  1. Customer Service - This is already in full swing with many websites having an AI chatbot aka ‘Susan’ in the bottom righthand corner of their site. These are usually language power AI programs using keywords to provide lifelike and real-time customer service.

  2. Accountants - Why pay a person to do your tax when you can have AI do it for you more accurately, quicker, and cheaper? The traditional bean counter profession could be a thing of the past soon as AI continues to evolve.

  3. Graphic Designers - AI image generation has exploded recently with the likes of Chat GPT adding DALL-E to their AI suite which has the capability to make images and videos. Although we are only at the beginning of AI image generation, this is sure to continue to accelerate at an unprecedented pace.

  4. Stock Traders - Another early AI adopter industry that is using AI to its benefit is the financial trading space. Being able to predict and make trades at lightning speeds means traders are able to cut their losses quicker and jump on rallying stocks sooner. Will it get to a point though that AI will and can manipulate markets? Maybe we’re already there.

  5. Financial Advisory - It’s almost become harder for you to trust a financial advisor these days than your ex who cheated on you. Unfortunately, a lot of financial advisors have brought this on themselves with their dodgy recommendations in favour of personal commissions. Never fear, AI is here to give you the latest and greatest advice on what you should do with your money. My guess is it’ll be something along the lines of ‘Invest it in AI technology’.

  6. Teachers - If anyone needs a break, it’s teachers. Although maybe not a permanent break. This is one profession I’m a little skeptical about AI replacing, especially when it comes to teaching children. Online learning for adults makes sense. But time will tell.

  7. Market Researchers - Being able to organise, manage and present data accurately and quickly is AI’s strength. This is particularly helpful when it comes to market research where large amounts of data needs to be collected, ordered and presented efficiently.

  8. Lawyers/Legal Professionals - Again, when it comes to professions that require attention to detail and as accurate as possible information presented, AI excels. Legal is one such industry that fits the bill here too. Instead of lawyers spending hours upon hours reading through legal jargon, AI can scan, find and summarise exactly what is needed within minutes.

  9. Media Professionals - In an industry that relies heavily on ‘real-time’ news and being first to market, AI can help establish a strong competitor advantage in this space. The important, and serious, part of this is making sure that what is found and published is true and accurate.

  10. Software Programmers and almost any other tech job - Surprise, surprise! The industry that created AI will eventually make itself redundant as it continues to learn and become better at creating software and technology. The matrix is becoming more and more lifelike each day.

It may be a little worrying if you’re in one of the above professions. However, I’m of the opinion that this also serves as a great opportunity. An opportunity to leverage this next revolution in the way we work. Start learning how you can use AI to perform better in your job. This way, not only are you using AI to your benefit but you’re also on your way to becoming an expert on AI. Which will become a job in itself soon enough. Just like there are thousands of Social Media consultants now. This will soon be the case too with AI. Time to strike will the iron is hot!
